My father was a world champion javelin thrower and held several records in the 100 meter dash. He was the type to chase numbers, always looking for a slightly faster time and a slightly longer distance. I still remember him telling me the story of when he simultaneously attempted both records but unfortunately passed away before completing the dash. He was struck in the back by his own previously thrown javelin and promptly disqualified from both events. Some bits may have been embellished.

T here is a world of fulfillment in between the numbers chasing, Oppo. Your investment in rest and relaxation improves every other aspect of life, including longevity, and a car that heartens your constitution can be as enthusiastically owned as a car that coaxes and demands your being.

This car has spoiled me and I’m better for it.

Well said! :)

There is exactly ONE Amanti around here and it always catches my eye when I see it...always thought they were better cars than people make them out to be :)

Sometimes you just want a comfortable reliable car that doesn’t ever really let you down. It can come to mean more to you for what it didn’t do (let you down) than the individual times it ferried you to the grocery store in safety and comfort without incident.

But that Amanti is fundamentally a weird take on a rather boring formula. Is that all there is to say about it?

I’ve always liked the looks of the Amanti, its shape and its proportions. A true midsized luxury sedan with definitely Asian vibe, and I think the Koreans have generally made a good car for the money.

How has it performed for you?

It's been a good car! Still impresses out in my area.

It really is a car that’s doing down market impressions of a lot of other cars (and it’s the boring characteristics at that). The unique aspect   was in the price delta between it and the cars it attempts to imitate but that’s gone now.

I wasn’t looking for anything outside of a clean, cheap, but nice car at the time and it delivers to this day on that front.

Clean, cheap, and nice describes why I bought my Cruze pretty well. You simply couldn’t get bluetooth in a $5,000 car at the time and it was stunningly clean and low mileage compared to the crap heaps I’d been checking out plus being 5 years or so newer. Sometimes you just want good reliable car that you can fun with because you know it won’t let you down.

I don’t think I would have ever bought an Amanti new but used they’re a half decent deal.
